When You Need an Outside Perspective

Sometimes you don’t need more content.

You need clarity.

This service is for organizations, businesses, and professionals who already have communications in place but need help understanding what is working, where the problems are, and what deserves attention first.

It may be a good fit if:

  • Your newsletter, website, email, or other communication feels too long, unclear, or difficult to use.

  • You are not sure your message is reaching the right audience.

  • Your communications have grown inconsistent over time.

  • You are trying to say too many things at once.

  • People are seeing your message but not taking the action you expected.

  • Different staff members, volunteers, or departments are communicating in different ways.

  • You know something needs attention, but you are not ready for a full communications overhaul.

Sometimes nothing is obviously wrong. You just know your communications feel harder to manage than they should.

That is usually the point when an outside perspective helps.

What’s included

Your Communications Clarity package includes:

  • Review of up to 10 pages, or the equivalent, related to one communications challenge

  • Evaluation of purpose, audience, message, structure, and execution

  • A 75-minute working session by video or in person

  • A 2–3 page Communications Clarity Summary

  • Prioritized recommendations organized into First, Next, and Later

What I review

Depending on the challenge, I may review:

  • Website or landing-page copy

  • Newsletters or email campaigns

  • Program, event, donor, member, or community communications

  • Social media or printed materials

  • Executive or leadership communications

You do not need to create anything new. Existing materials give me the clearest picture of how your communications are working now.

What I’m looking for:

I review your materials through five lenses:

Purpose: What is this communication trying to accomplish?

Audience: Is it written for the people you need to reach?

Message: Is the main point clear?

Structure: Is the information easy to follow?

Execution: Do the language, tone, and call to action support the goal?

I’m looking for patterns, not just proofreading sentences.

What I need from you:

Before the session, you’ll provide:

  • A brief description of the challenge

  • Your intended audience and goal

  • Up to 10 pages, or the equivalent, of relevant materials

  • Any background or timing details that would help me understand the situation

You do not need to assemble a polished presentation or your entire communications archive. I just need enough context and real-world material to understand the problem clearly.

The working session

We’ll talk about what should happen first, what can wait, and what may not need to be done at all.

During our 75-minute session, we’ll talk through what I found, answer questions, and sort the challenge into practical priorities.

We’ll look at what is already working, where the message is getting stuck, and which changes are most likely to make a meaningful difference.

The goal is not to leave you with more work. It is to leave you with a clearer sense of what matters and what to do next.

Your Communications Clarity Summary

After the session, you’ll receive a 2–3 page Communications Clarity Summary that brings the findings and recommendations together in one practical document.

  • What’s working

  • What’s getting in the way

  • Priority issues

  • First / Next / Later actions

  • Practical recommendations for moving forward

You can use the summary as a guide for your own team, share it with colleagues or leadership, or use it as the starting point for future communications work.
